Does Kindle Scout accept poetry? No, at this time we are only able to accept fictional prose of 50,000 words or more.
Does Kindle Scout accept short stories? Yes and no. We do not accept individual stories of fewer than 50,000 words. However, collections of never-before-published fictional prose stories amounting to 50,000 words or more may be submitted for consideration.
Based on my country, am I eligible to submit/nominate a book? Anyone with a valid Amazon account registered to an Amazon marketplace in the United States, Europe, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, or India can submit and nominate books. If Kindle Scout is not available in your country at this time, submission and nomination buttons will be grayed out.
Are there any rules or guidelines for submission? Yes, before you submit, please make sure your submission adheres to the following content guidelines:
Submit never-before-published books: Kindle Scout books should not have been available for sale in any format, anywhere in the past, including on Amazon. However, manuscripts that have appeared on blogs or social media sites - where you share drafts of your work, but can't receive money for them - are eligible.
Respect the rights of others: We take violations of laws and other people's proprietary rights very seriously. It is your responsibility to ensure that all content in your submission complies with all applicable laws, including copyright, trademark, privacy and publicity laws. The use of someone else's content without their permission is prohibited. Examples of third party content that should not be used without permission include, but are not limited to images, photographs, illustrations, artwork, charts, graphs, tables, logos, trademarks, song lyrics, poems, and quotes from textual works.
Provide high-quality content: We believe in creating an excellent customer experience. You can increase the l ikelihood of selection by adhering closely to our Eligibility & Content Guidelines and by submitting a fully finished, professionally copyedited manuscript. We recommend following The Chicago Manual of Style. Poorly formatted books and those with misleading titles, cover art, or descriptions will not be made eligible to readers for nominations. We reserve the right to determine whether a submission provides a poor reader experience.
Choose your words and cover images with care: We don't accept offensive content, including but not limited to racial slurs, excessively graphic or violent material, or excessive use of profanity. We allow submission materials to contain sexual content, but pornography or offensive depictions of graphic sexual acts are prohibited.
Are there additional guidelines for book covers? Your book cover must follow the basic guidelines. Additionally, book covers are the primary way books are represented on the Kindle Scout site and if selected for publication will be shared with readers on Amazon. To give your book the best chance of passing review and qualifying for all featured Amazon marketing, you should design a great cover while avoiding the use of:
Representations of violence, including weapons, blood, or graphic gore
Iconography, paraphernalia, or imagery that represents a distinct world view, point of view, or political stance
Partial nudity or provocative imagery that is suggestive of sex or violence
What happens if my submission is not approved for launch? We reserve the right to decide whether the content of a submission is appropriate. If your book is not accepted, you will be given the opportunity to make changes and re-submit
What languages does Kindle Scout accept? We currently accept stories written in English.
Does the Kindle Scout team review books before they're made available on the site? Yes. We review all submission materials before approving a book for launch on the Kindle Scout site.
Should I use a specific style guide while I write? To increase your likelihood of being selected for publication, we recommend following The Chicago Manual of Style.
Can I submit more than one book at once? No, only one book per author is eligible for submission at any given time. If you have multiple manuscripts, we recommend selecting the one you're most proud of and trying that first.
Can I collaborate or co-write a book? Not at this time. Kindle Press can only credit and pay one contributor per book.
Does Kindle Scout accept books that are part of a series? Yes, as long as the book meets all other eligibility requirements.
How will I be paid? After you have been selected and you have delivered your final manuscript (including all revisions), you will receive an invitation to register with Amazon Payee Central where you will be asked to provide the tax and banking information needed for payment.
Your payment options are based on the location of your bank account. Kindle Scout makes payments:
In local currency via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) in the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, and the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) countries in Europe.
In local currency via wire transfer in Australia, Morocco, New Zealand, and South Africa.
In USD via wire transfer for all other Kindle Scout-eligible countries. You must provide us with a bank account that can accept direct wire transfers in USD. We cannot make payment through an intermediary bank.
What happens to my book if it is selected for publication? Your manuscript and cover should be ready to publish. If your book is selected, we will do another internal review to see if your book is ready to publish (you'll also get a chance to fix any last minute typos). If it isn't, we may reach out to you with guidance to make your book ready to publish.
Kindle Scout is reader-powered publishing for new, never-before-published books. It's a place where readers help decide if a book gets published. Selected books will be published by Kindle Press and receive 5-year renewable terms, a $1,500 advance, 50% eBook royalty rate, easy rights reversions and featured Amazon marketing.
