Books on Alexa

Ask Alexa to read your Audible or Kindle books to you, so you can listen while you’re cooking, folding laundry, or hanging out around the house.

Say, “Alexa, read my book,” and Alexa will pick up the latest book you’ve read or listened to, or ask for a specific book title from your Audible or Kindle library by saying “Alexa, read The Hobbit.”

You can also ask Alexa to listen to bedtime stories, find quotes, and more.

Listen to Audible books

Now available through Alexa, Audible brings books to life with powerful narrators and celebrity performances. Just say, "Alexa, read my Audible book."

Or ask, “Alexa, what’s free from Audible?” to find out which top Audible title is free for listening on Alexa this month.

To start a free 30-day trial, say “Alexa, sign-up for Audible.” Terms and Conditions apply.

Listen to Kindle books

If you don’t own the Audible version, Alexa can read most Kindle books in your library in her own voice for free – just say, "Alexa, read my Kindle book."

Try it with books you purchased and books you’ve borrowed from Prime Reading or Kindle Unlimited.

Never lose your place

Switch seamlessly between devices with Whispersync. If you were already reading on your Kindle or listening to an Audible book on your phone, Alexa will pick up right where you left off.

To navigate within books, say things like “Alexa, next chapter” (available on Audible only) or “Alexa, go ahead.” And, set a sleep timer by saying “Alexa, stop reading in 20 minutes.”

Your Kindle or Audible library

On devices with screens like the Echo Show, say, “Alexa, show my Kindle books,” or “Alexa, what Audible books do I have?” to see a complete list of your books.

On other devices, Alexa can tell you the three most recent Audible books you’ve purchased.

Listen to a bedtime story

Make bedtime fun with the Amazon Storytimeskill, designed for kids ages 5 – 12.

Say, "Alexa, tell me a bedtime story" to hear a story from a growing collection of professionally narrated short stories, curated from the Amazon Rapids app library and Audible short stories.

Great quotes, popular books, and more

Say, "Alexa, tell me a quote" for a quick dose of literary inspiration. And, add the quote of the day to your flash briefing by enabling the Daily Quotes Flash Briefing.

Or ask, "Alexa, what are the most popular books this week?" to hear this week’s Most Read and Most Sold books in fiction and non-fiction. Powered by Amazon Charts.

Plus, get quick answers by asking Alexa when your favorite books were written and who wrote them.
